The DeviantArt Magazine Project


The goal of the Deviant Art Magazine project is to compile dA content into magazine format which will be available in PDF for download on deviantart.com at ~dAMagazine

By including some of the great artworks, news articles, contest winners and other dA information into a magazine we hope to offer a larger and longer lasting medium in which to feature the work of our fellow Deviants. In this way it can exist to stand as a documentation of what and who was happening at DeviantArt during a certain period of time as well as exposing Deviants to ideas and artists that they may not have previously seen before.

The first initial release of the magazine is looking at a target size of 48 pages, although this may increase depending on the size of response and staff. Current ideas for content include, but are not limited to:

Featured Deviants – To include gallery selections, and interviews.
DeviantArt News – To include the most important information recently put out by the dA staff.
Features - Individual features from various Art Categories
Tips & Tutorials

We are still currently in the first stages of design and content for this magazine and for all of this to be possible we need your help.

We are going to need a number of dedicated deviants who are willing to give some time and creativity to this project. This includes deviants from any part of the Art world including, but not limited to, writers, digital artists and photographers. We are looking for candidates for the following fields:

Layout

A team of people who can take the content and arrange into magazine format. The program we are trying to use for this is Adobe InDesign, which is extremely easy to learn if you are familiar with Photoshop. Anyone who has done any kind of Digital Art work can easily become a Layout Designer with some short study of magazine structure and layout.

Writers

Specifically for the task of interviewing Deviants, writing articles and arranging other text based content for use in the magazine.

Graphic Design

Digital artists who would work on specific artwork needed for page layouts, backgrounds, headline graphics, and other design.

Content Managers

A strong team of people in charge of finding, gathering, and selecting artwork to be used/displayed in the magazine.

Street Team

The street team is for everyone who is interested in helping with the project, but does not fall into one of the other team categories. As a street team member you would promote the project around DeviantArt, along with making submission recommendations, and general suggestions during the design and editing stages of the magazine.

We would also be interested in hearing from various clubs and groups around dA who would be interested in possible features or affiliations.

Although prior experience is appreciated, it is not required. Anyone who is interested in taking part in this project can send a note to *Raidhyn, `lady-blue or =divinedecay. Please entitle your note ‘Magazine Staff Application’ and include which position on the magazine staff you are interested in working with, why, and what skills you would bring to the table as part of the team. Feel free to go on as long as you need to.
